Our Story
I grew up being a horse crazy kid and rode every chance I could. As an adult, I took lessons and leased in Halifax Nova Scotia and in Victoria British Columbia, riding very sporadically while in a very demanding Military career. I now am blessed to have my adventure buddy Hank living on the same property as me and I have transitioned to “civilian” life. We are out and about Southern Vancouver Island riding trails, doing Working Equitation, schooling cross country, Hunter/Jumper lessons and schooling shows.
I come from a family of needlecrafters, quilters and weavers that have influenced my whole life resulting in my over 30 years of sewing and quilting experience. I bought my first sewing machine at 14 and still have and use it almost every day. I love making quilts but have run out of people to gift them to and cupboard space or beds to display them on. Saddle pads are very similar to quilts and allow me the outlet for creativity and experimentation in design that my soul craves.
Our Mission
I started making saddle pads for Hank after we had experienced his first allergic reaction to Neoprene. It was horrible. I felt that I could do better for him by limiting what materials came into direct contact with his body during our rides. After many discussions with other riders and horse industry professionals I realized that I could do better for a more reasonable price. If the saddle is the “shoe” that fits the rider and the horse; the saddle pad is the sock. Who would want to wear a heat trapping, non-wicking, slippery or bunching foam sock? I started making pads for myself and being asked where they came from... So, I fessed up and have started selling them to friends and fellow local riders in person or by social media in British Columbia.
Our Team
At 27 Cedars Custom Saddle Pads, we are a small team that is growing. It all started with Scarlett wanting her own pad and the first customer then became the first employee. We now have our products available at Willow Wind Feed and Pet supplies, Evolution Equestrian and a few new locations being announced in 2024. The little dream is getting bigger!
